Dressed resplendently in traditional Luo attire, Governor Orengo exuded reverence, brandishing a spear and shield as he led the assembly in the sacred incantations known as Sigweyo, a solemn tribute to the departed soul.

“Jowi! Jowi! Jowi! Jowi!” echoed through the air, each reverberation carrying the weight of respect and honor bestowed upon Gen Ogolla, a man of great stature within the community.

The Luo tradition, steeped in rich cultural practices, dictates meticulous rituals for individuals of Gen Ogolla’s esteemed stature. His burial, held on Sunday, April 21st, was a solemn affair, marked by a somber mood as he was laid to rest without a coffin, his form enveloped in a simple sheet in accordance with his final wishes.

As a final tribute to his military service, the haunting strains of the Last Post reverberated across the landscape, a poignant reminder of sacrifice and duty. Yet, in accordance with Luo customs, the ceremony did not end there.

Following the solemn interlude, the traditional practice of Tero buru should commenced, a ritual intended to banish the lingering presence of death’s malevolent spirit. With each chant and gesture, the community sought solace and closure, drawing strength from the enduring legacy of Gen Francis Ogolla.
