Prioritize development and avoid violence, Obungu Owich tells Nyanza leaders.

Chair of Bunge la Wananchi caucus, Obungu Owich, has issued a plea to all elected leaders from Luo Nyanza to prioritize peace in order to drive development in the region.

Mr. Owich, who has been touring various counties, urging citizens to demand accountability from their leaders, expressed concern over the prevalent violence in many Luo Nyanza counties, labeling it as a disgrace to the region.

He directed blame towards conflicting factions in areas like Migori, Homa Bay, and Siaya County, questioning the region’s focus on politics at the expense of progress.

“What are we doing as a region? Are we going to prioritize politics over development?” he questioned.

Mr. Owich urged aspiring governors to exercise patience and allow incumbent governors to fulfill their electoral promises.

He condemned the recent clashes in Migori involving Governor Ochilo Ayako and Uriri MP Mark Nyamita, describing them as counterproductive.

In reference to the altercation in Gem involving Governor James Orengo and former Rarieda lawmaker Nicholas Gumbo, Mr. Owich emphasized the need for leaders to avoid conflicts, emphasizing that there are still several years until the next election.

An adept politician eyeing the Kondele Ward seat in the 2027 general election, Mr. Owich also serves as the president of the Sufuria Movement.
