The Kenya Wildlife Service and police officers apprehended a fifty-year-old man in possession of ivory.
The arrest took place during a raid on the residence of Epuk Lottukokoi Longoletup at Olmoran Shopping Center.
Upon searching the premises, officers discovered six pieces of ivory concealed inside a green sack weighing 90 kilograms and a brown sack weighing 50 kilograms, as stated in a police incident report.
The estimated value of the seized contraband is Sh1.5 million. The suspect has been placed in custody pending arraignment in court on Monday.
The arrest is significant given the ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Tourism to combat illegal poaching in the country.
Instances of illegal poaching pose a severe threat to wildlife conservation efforts, leading to the endangerment of species such as white rhinos.
The ministry’s initiatives aim to curb these illegal activities and safeguard the diverse wildlife population in Kenya.
This arrest further underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and conservation organizations to protect endangered species and preserve the natural heritage of the nation.
