Scare as people are evacuated following a tanker accident in Kajiado County.

KAJIADO: Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has directed that residents of the Royal Finance area, located along the Namanga Highway, be evacuated from their residences at following a collision involving a fuel tanker and a Prado.

According to the police incident report obtained by our reporter on the ground, the tanker was carrying Liquified Petroleum Gas, posing a significant threat to residents within a 500-meter radius of the accident scene.

The collision occurred when the tanker driver failed to maintain his lane, resulting in a head-on collision between the two vehicles.

“The trailer, traveling from the Isinya general direction towards Kitengela, veered from its lane and collided head-on with a motor vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, causing the Prado to veer off the road and land in a ditch on the left side facing Isinya direction,” stated the incident report.

The driver of the Prado sustained head injuries and bruises on both hands as a result of the accident. He was promptly transported to St. Paul’s Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. The scene was investigated, and necessary actions were taken.

Following the towing of the Prado to the station, authorities discovered that gas was leaking from the tanker, prompting an urgent evacuation of individuals within a 500-meter radius. This precautionary measure aimed to prevent a recurrence of the tragic Embakasi East incident, which resulted in fatalities and millions of dollars in property damage.
