Prepare for Maandamano if you insist on increasing taxes, Samuel Atandi.

Alego Usonga Member of Parliament, Samuel Atandi, has declared his ireadiness to spearhead mass action against the government due to its recent tax hikes.

The second-term lawmaker strongly criticized his fellow legislators whom he alleges were influenced by bribery to support the ousted Minister of Agriculture, Mithika Linturi, amidst corruption allegations within his ministry.

“The MPs who sat on the select committee were easily swayed by monetary inducements to protect Mr. Linturi,” Atandi remarked, expressing his disappointment.

Furthermore, Atandi voiced concerns that similar tactics might be employed during the consideration of the Finance Bill 2024.

“If these MPs are compromised, we will take our grievances to the people and organize a demonstration,” he affirmed.

Mithika Linturi managed to survive an impeachment motion following a special sitting, where a select committee, chaired by Marsabit lawmaker Naomi Waqo, concluded that the allegations against him lacked sufficient evidence.

Waqo emphasized that the committee’s decision was guided by constitutional principles and parliamentary procedures.

The select committee’s report, presented during the Monday session, indicated that a majority of its members found all three allegations against CS Linturi to be baseless.

Seven committee members voted in favor of clearing Linturi of any wrongdoing, while four members dissented, advocating for his removal from office.
