Shock after a woman faked suicide following domestic misunderstanding

UGENYA: In Ugenya, a woman shocked the community by staging a suicide attempt following a domestic dispute with her husband.

The woman, left a note detailing her reasons for supposedly taking her own life by drowning in River Nzoia. Her clothes and the note were discovered on the riverbanks, causing panic among the locals, including her husband, who promptly reported the incident to the police.

Upon receiving the report, police officers rushed to Nzoia Bridge, where the alleged suicide attempt took place. In addition to finding the woman’s clothes, the officers also discovered a note written in Swahili, indicating that the woman aged 31, was the individual involved in the incident.

“Nimechoshwa na kelele nineona nijitumbukishe bahari. Nimechoka nawe. linda watoto wangu. ni mimi mami. mupigie wazazi wangu simu’” translated as “I am fed up with quarrels, I have opted to throw myself into River Nzoia. I am tired, take care of my children, call my parents.” Stated the note she left behind.

In addition to the note, police found clothing belonging to the woman, including a maroon skirt and a brown shirt.

“No one witnessed her jumping into the river, and there has been no recovery of the body thus far. According to the husband, his wife had an argument with him last night and left home this morning after informing their children that she intended to end her life. Efforts to locate her are currently underway,” stated a police incident report filed at Ukwala Police Station.

After panic and serious search, she emerged alive and sound; people had mixed reactions with the close family members refusing to talk about the matter.

Attempts to have the Ugenya Sub-County Police commander comment on the matter were futile as phone calls were never answered.
