Police arrest a man with dangerous high caliber ammunition hidden under mattress

UGENYA: Police in Ugenya sub-county have apprehended a man found in possession of high-caliber ammunition concealed under his mattress.

The individual, identified as David Otieno Banda, aged 34, will be held in custody pending his arraignment before the Ukwala Magistrate on Monday, the 10th.

Officers from the National Police Service conducted a raid at the residence of Mzee Joseph Odhiambo Banda, aged 79, in Simur sub-location.

Mzee Banda had lodged a complaint alleging that his son, David Banda, had been constantly threatening his life.

Upon arrival at the home, the police entered David’s house, finding it unlocked at the time. They discovered him asleep and promptly took him into custody.

A subsequent search of his residence revealed high-caliber ammunition hidden between two mattresses where he had been sleeping.

“Upon entering in the house of accused who had not locked  the door but was found sleeping the officers immediately arrested him and conducted quick search whereby they recovered one high calibre ammunition of 7.9×67mm (.300wm) hidden between two mattresses where he was sleeping,” a police report indicated,” a police incident report indicated.

Investigations are underway as the police have a strong conviction that he might be having a gun.
