Ford Foundation deny funding anarchy in Kenya

The Ford Foundation, a US-based organization, has refuted allegations linking it to the ongoing demonstrations in Kenya, which have resulted in fatalities and property damage.

In a press release distributed to both Kenyan and international media, the organization denied claims made by President William Ruto.

“We categorically deny funding or endorsing the recent protests against the finance bill and maintain a strictly non-partisan approach to our grant-making,” the statement read.

President Ruto, during a visit to Nakuru County today, pointed an accusatory finger at the multi-billion dollar organization, accusing it of fueling unrest in Kenya.

“I urge international organizations operating in Kenya to cease funding violent protests in the country. What do they gain from destabilizing Kenya?” the Head of State questioned.

He reiterated the importance for young people, particularly Generation Z, to refrain from demonstrations and instead create space for dialogue.

Last week, President Ruto dismissed his entire cabinet following weeks of protests. This decision followed the removal and subsequent deletion of the Finance Bill 2024.
