Locals lynch and burn houses of suspected thieves, several are on the run

KIHARU: After a series of livestock and crop thefts, residents of Kiharu in Murang’a County grew weary and decided to take matters into their own hands.

The enraged members of the public cornered the suspected perpetrators and unleashed their fury upon them. The suspects, who happened to be brothers, faced brutal lynching and one of them was burned alive, while the other narrowly escaped.

In a shocking escalation, the mob then proceeded to their homes and set fire to six houses belonging to their families.

Murang’a County Commissioner, Joshua Nkatha, confirmed the incident and assured that investigations would be conducted.

Initially targeting seven individuals on their most wanted list, the remaining suspects are now on the run following the severe consequences faced by one of them.

The body of the deceased suspect has been transported to the Kiharu hospital mort
