Police have apprehended a suspect believed to be connected to the disturbing deaths in Kware, located within Mukuru slums.
According to police reports, the individual was arrested at a residence in Kayole, just 500 meters from the Kware dump site. The arrest followed an operation after the suspect allegedly lured another victim into his house.
During the arrest, police discovered several items in the suspect’s hideout, including multiple mobile phones, identity cards, SIM cards, a machete (panga), gloves, and sacks.
Since the discovery of the first body on Friday, a total of ten bodies have been recovered from the dump site.
These bodies, in advanced stages of decomposition, have been transported to the city mortuary pending post-mortem examinations.
Kware, derived from “Quarry,” was once an abandoned area where gravel and stones were extracted for construction, but it has now been converted into a dumpsite.
Local residents have urged the police to identify the victims, highlighting the challenging conditions faced in the investigation due to the bodies’ state of decomposition.
In a move aimed at ensuring transparency in the investigations, all officers from Kware police station have been reassigned by the acting Inspector General. This decision comes amidst accusations from human rights activists and the public, who alleged police involvement in the killings and disposal of bodies.
“They have abandoned River Yala dumpsite, they are now dumping them in the pits,” remarked Victor Otieno, a human rights activist, in an earlier interview with Kondele News.
