Residents of Usonga location in Alego/Usonga constituency held a vibrant accountability forum, challenging the county leadership over poor service delivery and the neglect of youth empowerment.
Spearheaded by Mathews Okoth Otieno, the forum saw a significant turnout of youths who boldly criticized both the executive and legislative branches of the county government.
They highlighted numerous shortcomings across key development sectors, including health, sports, and infrastructure.
The youths, grappling with high unemployment rates, expressed their frustration at the lack of opportunities despite promises made by their leaders.
“We were assured that our voices would be heard and our needs met, but we see no evidence of that,” Mr Okoth lamented.
The forum also brought to light the issue of ongoing projects within the ward that have failed to benefit local youth or women groups.
“It’s disheartening to see projects being implemented without any tangible impact on our lives,” he further pointed out.
He went on, “For instance in our Usonga Ward, we have at least Sh500,000 allocation for sports but nothing is actually taking place. Youths can only harvest sand and after that indulge into drinking or play billiards because they are idle.”
As the call for accountability grows louder, the residents of Usonga are determined to ensure that their leaders deliver on their promises and work towards meaningful development that includes everyone.
