Drama unfolded at ACK Nasokol Church in Kapenguria as two rival groups held separate services in protest against Commissary Bishop Simon Onyango.
The ACK Church in West Pokot has been embroiled in a prolonged leadership conflict, which has now escalated to a full-blown schism.
The dispute began when Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit appointed Bishop Simon Onyango as a commissary to calm tensions and pave the way for a new bishop in the proposed Kapenguria Diocese.

This new diocese, carved out from Kitale, has since divided the church into two factions, each holding parallel services and separate tithe collections.
Yesterday, the scene at Nasokol ACK Church was marked by dramatic displays of dissent.
One faction, led by Reverend Joshua Korinyang, held placards and chanted “Onyango Must Go,” while moving around the church praying and singing for divine intervention to heal the divided congregation.
They accused Bishop Onyango of bias and alleged that he had a hidden agenda to install a new bishop and elevate certain church leaders without their knowledge.
Heavy security was deployed to prevent any physical clashes between the factions. Reverend Korinyang’s group accused the church leadership of constitutional violations, claiming that retired Bishop Stephen Kewasis had orchestrated the appointment of Suffragan Bishop Samson Tuliapus to support his interests.
The leadership wrangle dates back to 2018 when former ACK Kitale Diocese Bishop Stephen Kewasis retired after 27 years of service.
Over ten thousand ACK Christians from West Pokot County sought to establish the Kapenguria Diocese, leading to the current division.
Reverend Korinyang criticized retired Bishop Kewasis for not fully stepping down and for backing leaders who would safeguard his interests.
He emphasized the need for unity and adherence to church procedures in selecting the new bishop.
As the leadership dispute continues, the once vibrant ACK Nasokol Church, known for establishing many schools and churches across Pokot land, finds itself at a crossroads, seeking a path to reconciliation and stability.
