Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o has stirred online discussions with his recent press release congratulating Tim Walz on his nomination as the running mate for Kamala Harris in the upcoming December polls.
Tim Walz, currently serving as the Governor of Minnesota, was chosen from three finalists shortlisted as potential Democratic running mates.
In his press release, Governor Nyong’o wrote: “Governor Tim James Walz, I would like to congratulate you as your fellow governor for your nomination by Kamala Harris as her running mate in the race to capture the White House for the Democrats in the coming presidential elections in your country.”
The press release generated mixed reactions among Kenyans, with some considering his congratulations inconsequential.
Last evening, at the Democratic headquarters, a meeting was held to select the suitable candidate to be Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate.
Harris remained the sole candidate for the Democrats after President Joe Biden chose not to seek a second term.
During the meeting, Harris’s confidants discussed the pros and cons of each potential running mate.
The discussions extended into a meal break, as the team focused on three finalists for pivotal in-person interviews the next day: Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota, Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona, and Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania.
Extensive polling, focus groups, and record reviews had been conducted, and the conclusion presented to Harris was that she could secure the White House with any of the three finalists by her side.
