Gatundu North: Gatundu North Member of Parliament, Elija Njoroge, has expressed doubts about retaining his seat in the 2027 elections.
His concerns come in the wake of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s ouster, which has created a significant shift in the political landscape.
Speaking candidly, Mr. Njoroge acknowledged the historical trend in his constituency, where lawmakers rarely secure a second term.
“I know I come from a constituency that never votes for lawmakers a second term. I am at home with it. I would love to contest a second time, but I know they will not elect me back,” he stated.
Mr. Njoroge is among several MPs from the Mt. Kenya region who supported Gachagua’s removal.
This move has placed them in a precarious position, as political sentiments in Central Kenya have shifted.
Those who backed the ouster motion now face backlash.
Political analysts from the region predict that Gachagua’s ouster will have repercussions for his supporters due to his substantial influence.
Since 1997, only Patrick Kariuki has managed to defend the Gatundu North parliamentary seat for a second term, with others, including Clement Waibara, Francis Kigo, and Anne Wanjiku, serving only a single term.
