George Mwenda Mutegi, the prime suspect in the murder of Radio 44 presenter Ms. Lilian Achieng Aluko, has been arrested.
After a meticulous manhunt, Mutegi was found hiding in Kaanwa, Tharaka Nithi County.
Mutegi’s arrest by a team of detectives from DCI Headquarters, supported by their Meru counterparts, marks the end of an intense investigation.
The investigation started on November 1, 2024, the night Mutegi allegedly murdered his girlfriend. After the killing, Mutegi disappeared, erasing his tracks.
Police and neighbors discovered Achieng’s lifeless body the next morning. She had a stab wound behind her right ear and visible injuries on her face and hips.
Investigations revealed that the couple had spent the evening at a local establishment before returning to Mutegi’s residence in Kahawa West.
Neighbors heard loud screams from Mutegi’s locked house, which were drowned out by loud music.
Believing the couple would resolve their issues, the neighbors ignored the distress calls. That night, the life of 33-year-old Achieng, a local radio presenter, was tragically cut short.
Mutegi is now being processed for arraignment. The DCI continues to investigate similar cases to ensure justice for all victims.
