Police officers sprayed with Sulphuric Acid while pursuing a suspect

NAIROBI: Three police officers sustained injuries after allegedly being attacked with sulfuric acid while pursuing a suspect at Ngara Medical Center, a private facility.

The injured officers, Tom Mbuku, Moses Lelei, and Joyce Otieno, were tracking a suspect believed to have transported stolen drugs from the Central Business District (CBD) to Ngara Medical Center.

Upon reaching the medical center, the suspect was let inside and the door was locked behind him.

The police incident report states, “A suspect who was carrying suspected stolen drugs from Nairobi CBD to Ngara Medical Centre was ushered into the facility and the door was locked from inside.”

According to the report, when the officers knocked on the door, a woman identified as Jonah Mororoi, 45, came out and sprayed them with a chemical suspected to be sulfuric acid.

The injured officers were quickly taken to Nairobi West Hospital, where they were treated and discharged in fair condition.

Following preliminary investigations, police arrested four suspects in connection with the incident: Mwaura Karumba, Beatrice Vinya, Faith Kaduka, and Rose Gitau.

Five liters of suspected sulfuric acid and assorted drugs were also recovered and kept as evidence.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court tomorrow.
