KISII: Three suspects have been arrested following the brutal murder of a 22-year-old security guard during a robbery at Engako Bar in Nyachenge trading center, Gucha South.
The crime, which occurred on November 26, 2024, left the local community in shock as the assailants looted alcohol worth Sh26,000 after the attack.
According to investigators, the suspects were apprehended during a targeted operation that spanned several days and counties.
The first suspect, Festus Odhiambo, alias “Arum,” was arrested in Migori County, where police recovered a set of blood-stained clothes believed to be linked to the crime.
His arrest provided critical leads that led to the capture of two accomplices: Thomas Momanyi Omenta, 31, and Grace Kerubo Oseko, 26, in Kisii township.
Among the items recovered was a mobile phone stolen from the crime scene.
The attack occurred on a fateful evening when the suspects allegedly ambushed the guard outside the bar, beating him with crude weapons before leaving him for dead.
With the guard incapacitated, they broke into the bar, stole several bottles of alcohol, and fled the scene.
The alarm was raised by the Tabaka area chief, who informed police and set the manhunt into motion.
An identification parade conducted by the Sub-County Head of Investigations confirmed the suspects’ involvement, as patrons who had visited the bar that evening positively identified them.
Witness accounts suggest that the trio had been seen at the bar earlier on the night of the murder.
The suspects are now in custody at Nyamarambe Police Station and have been arraigned under a miscellaneous application to allow further investigations.
