6 sony sugar staff in custody over 7.5 tonnes of sugar theft

Six employees of Sony Sugar Company are being held by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) for allegedly stealing 7.55 tonnes of sugar in April 2024.

Confirming the incident, the Sony Sugar company managing director Martin Dima said that the six have been arrested and are set for interrogation while two top officials at the sales department are being pursued by the police.

according to Dima, the loss was realized during an audit process before he joined the company as managing director.

“Investigations have ben ongoing since then, and a report tabled before the General Purpose Committee recommended action by the police. The company seeks to find out if more sugar had been lost,” added the MD.

Dima added that he was ready and determined to restore sanity in the company that has been struggling to stay afloat.
