CITY CRIME: An intensive security operation across several Nairobi estates has led to the arrest of four suspected armed robbers—including three Ugandan nationals and one Kenyan—and the recovery of three firearms and 50 rounds of ammunition.
The arrests, which took place on Thursday, May 22, followed weeks of investigations into a wave of violent robberies in Nairobi and parts of Western Kenya.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), supported by the Intelligence Bureau, launched the coordinated crackdown in Dandora, Saika, Pumwani, and Huruma.
The suspects had been under surveillance by the DCI’s Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, which had closely studied the gang’s operations before executing the bust.
Those arrested were identified as Sipholi Sam Wafula alias Sande, Ogomba Alex, Mohammed Musa, and Wafula Clinton.
Sipholi was the first to be apprehended. Upon interrogation, he led officers to his rented house in Saika, where a Falcon pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition was found hidden under a pillow. In a separate raid, Ogomba Alex was arrested in Dandora, where officers discovered an AK-47 rifle with 30 rounds concealed beneath a couch.
Leads from the duo guided detectives to Huruma, where they arrested Mohammed Musa at his family home. Preliminary investigations revealed he owned the AK-47 rifle.
The three Ugandan suspects had reportedly re-entered Kenya through the Malaba border on May 21, a day before their arrest. Authorities believe they had fled to Uganda after a violent robbery in Eastleigh, only to return and resume criminal activities.
The fourth suspect, Kenyan national Wafula Clinton—believed to be the ringleader—was nabbed in Pumwani. He was found with a loaded Palleberum Feg 9mm pistol tucked in his waist. Police say Clinton has been the mastermind behind the gang’s operations.
Authorities confirmed that the arrests disrupted a planned robbery at a business premises on 12th Street in Eastleigh. Additional suspects have been identified and are currently being pursued.
The four are now in custody at DCI Starehe for processing. An identification parade is scheduled ahead of their arraignment.
