RARIEDA: Police in Rarieda Sub‑County are investigating a heinous killing of a Constable attached to Aram Police Station.
The officer, identified as Constable Christone Maundu, was ambushed last night near Rarieda Secondary School while en route to report for duty.
Authorities believe the attackers, likely robbers, struck him with a sharp weapon, inflicting fatal head injuries on the spot.
According to Siaya County Police Commander Sera Koki, Maundu’s motorcycle ran out of fuel, prompting him to call for assistance.
When help arrived, they discovered his body by the roadside, the scene tinged with shock and alarm among local residents.
“A response team led by the Sub‑County Police Commander, along with DCI officers, proceeded to the scene. The body was found with deep head wounds, alongside the TVS motorcycle (KMES 735T),” a police report indicated.
Motive remains uncertain. Authorities are exploring robbery as a possibility, though no belongings were reported stolen, prompting questions about whether this was a targeted assassination Commander Koki affirmed that investigations are ongoing, with no arrests yet made.
Maundu’s body was transferred to Lwak Mission Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem is underway to aid the inquiry
