MURANG’A: At least three people were injured after police violently broke up a gathering of politicians allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at Ngonda Shopping Centre in Murang’a County.
The incident occurred on Sunday when officers reportedly set up a roadblock in the area and forcefully dispersed the group, leading to confrontations.
Gachagua later condemned the crackdown, accusing police of operating alongside hired goons to suppress his supporters.
“I call for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the criminals and the police officers involved in this act,” Gachagua said in a strongly worded statement. “Let it be known—justice will eventually catch up with them, regardless of how long it takes.”
Calling the attack “barbaric” and “dictatorial,” the former deputy president accused the authorities of violating constitutional freedoms.
“This is violence against the very soul of our nation, which is our Constitution,” he said.
Gachagua further questioned the moral integrity of the leadership behind the crackdown.
“How do you attend church and reconcile your conscience at the Holy Altar, then send police and goons to brutalize Kenyans in the same neighborhood?” he asked.
