Gachagua wanted police to arrest him for a political mileage, Opondo Kaluma

The political temperature in Kenya is rising, and the recent return of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has poured fuel on the fire.

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has weighed in, delivering a scathing rebuke that accuses Gachagua of a calculated political stunt.

Gachagua’s return on Thursday, August 21, following a trip to the United States, was a highly-anticipated event that drew considerable political attention.

But according to Kaluma, Gachagua was not just coming home—he was seeking a confrontation.

In a fiery statement, Kaluma alleged that the leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) was hoping for an arrest or a clash with authorities to serve as a political lifeline.

“Gachagua was pushing to be arrested on arrival from the USA so as to resurrect his buried tribal and hateful political career,” Kaluma declared on his X account.

“We are too smart for this. We will ignore him and add more soil to his deepening political grave.”

The Homa Bay MP argued that Kenyans have evolved beyond the politics of division.

He pointed to the “Broad-based Government” formed by President William Ruto and ODM Leader Raila Odinga as proof that the country is moving towards a more inclusive future, one that embraces all citizens regardless of their ethnic or political background.

“The Broad-Based Government unites and includes all Kenyans as equal citizens,” he concluded, making a clear case for unity over ethnic mobilization as the path forward for Kenya’s political landscape.
