Wizi wa Dhahabu: Woman in Bondo charged with conspiracy to rob a gold merchant

BONDO: A middle-aged woman charged with conspiracy to commit a felony has been granted a bond of Ksh 300,000 with a surety of a similar amount by a Bondo court.

Shakila Atieno Ngesa, who appeared before Bondo Resident Magistrate Christabel Maiyo, denied the charge.

Ms Ngesa, who was arrested on July 4, 2025, together with others not before court, had been detained at Bondo Police cells for a week as the prosecution revised her charges from Robbery with Violence to Conspiracy to Commit a Felony.

The court heard that on November 3, 2025, at Canaan Estate in Nyawita sub-location, Siaya County, Ngesa, jointly with others, and who were armed with an AK-47 rifle and three kitchen knives, conspired to rob Maxwell Otieno Orero of his two Samsung mobile phones valued at Sh52,000, 17 grams of gold valued at Sh227,000, and one Nokia phone valued at Sh2,500. The total value of the stolen items was Sh281,500.

Magistrate Maiyo warned the accused against interfering with witnesses, stating that any such act would lead to the cancellation of the bond.

She further granted an application by Safaricom Limited to release the call data belonging to the accused to aid the prosecution of the case.

The case will be mentioned on November 24, 2025.
