The son of the current ODM party leader, Oburu Oginga, Jaoko Oburu, is visibly positioning himself to join the political scene long dominated by his family.
Jaoko Oburu, who currently serves as a presidential adviser, appears ready to fully embark on a political path following the passing of his uncle, the revered figure and former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.
As a symbolic announcement of his political ambitions, he recently traveled to the Wanga Kingdom in Kakamega County, underscoring the deep-rooted connection of the Odinga family, who trace their royalty lineage to the famous Abawanga kingdom.
While it is not yet clear which seat Jaoko will contest in 2027, all indications point towards a potential run for the Bondo parliamentary seat, currently held by Dr. Gideon Ochanda, who is serving his third term in office.
Jaoko has also been making strategic inroads in Siaya County. He recently held a public meeting at the Siaya Bunge la Wananchi, where he addressed a sizable gathering of constituents.
This marks the first time Jaoko has held a major public meeting in several years.
He had previously hinted at a run for the Lang’ata parliamentary seat in 2022, but that bid did not materialize.
A close associate of his hinted to Kondele News that Jaoko is still contemplating his options: either seeking to succeed his father in the Siaya senatorial seat or attempting to unseat Dr Ochanda in the Bondo constituency.
