Three brothers to serve 35 years for raping and video recording the act

A court sitting in Bomet has delivered a stern sentence, condemning three brothers to 35 years in prison each for the gang-rape of a woman in Chepalungu sub-county two years ago.

The accused, Carlos Sigei, Weldon Sigei, and Anderson Sigei, appeared before Chief Magistrate Esther Booke and were convicted on the charge of gang rape, in contravention of Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Act, 2006.

The trio’s crime came to public light when a video of the horrific assault circulated widely online, sparking national outrage.

Following the widespread dissemination of the footage, police arrested the three men in December 2023, paving the way for the prosecution and final sentencing.
