Detectives nab bhang worth Sh11 million.

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) have dealt a blow to drug trafficking networks in Nakuru and Elgeyo Marakwet, seizing a combined haul of narcotics valued at over Sh12 million in two separate operations on Monday, January 19, 2026.

The coordinated crackdown, which involved intelligence-led interceptions, resulted in the arrest of two traffickers and the impounding of two vehicles used to ferry the illegal cargo.

The Nakuru Interception: A Sh11.6 Million Haul

Acting on a tip-off, ANU detectives, supported by the Dog Unit, set up an ambush along the Kabarak–Nakuru Road.

Their target was a silver Toyota Voxy suspected of ferrying high-grade cannabis.

The operation took a dramatic turn when the vehicle was flagged down. While the driver managed to evade capture by leaping from the moving vehicle and disappearing into a nearby thicket, his accomplice, Dennis Mukungua, was swiftly apprehended.

A thorough search of the Voxy revealed:24 packages, consisting of 12 green sacks and 12 compressed bales, Weighing 387 kilograms valued at Sh11,610,000

Mukungua and the vehicle were escorted to the Nakuru Police Station, where the suspect is currently being processed for arraignment.

The Keiyo South Bust

Parallel to the Nakuru operation, detectives in Keiyo South teamed up with officers from the Metkei Police Station to block a second trafficking route.

In the Kapchorwa area of Kamwosor, the team intercepted a Toyota Fielder (registration KDV 627S).

Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered seven bags of bhang concealed in the trunk and rear seats. The driver, identified as Vincent Odhiambo, was arrested on the spot.
