Siaya leaders unite to boost voter enrollment targets

SIAYA: The IEBC in Siaya County has entered a strategic partnership with state and non-state actors to accelerate voter registration, aiming to net 60,000 new voters in a month-long intensive drive.

County Election Manager Ezekiel Juma noted that the initiative seeks to mobilize every resident aged 18 and above who possesses a national ID or passport.

The collaborative effort is a response to historical voter apathy in the region.

County Commissioner Nobert Komora underscored the constitutional weight of the exercise, noting that the National Registration Bureau is working in tandem with the IEBC to streamline the process.

“We have noticed that for a long time, many have not bothered to take this step. This is a democratic exercise we must take seriously,” Komora said.

The stakeholders’ meeting, which included youth representatives and church leaders, concluded with a resolution to intensify grassroots outreach.

With 11,000 ID cards currently lying idle at the Registrar’s office, the success of the 30-day blitz will largely depend on how quickly residents claim their identification documents.
