Uriri lawmaker, Mark Nyamita has called for unity among the Luo community, urging residents to remain united and work together for the development of the region.
Speaking while attending the funeral of his friend, Aggrey Anditi, in Nyando Constituency, Kisumu County, Nyamita said that after the eventual exit of ODM leader Raila Odinga from active leadership, it may take time for the Luo community to find another unifying leader.
He therefore urged the community to embrace unity and cooperate with the government of the day, noting that the region is currently benefiting from various development projects.
The legislator further stated that leaders who fail to deliver on their mandates should not be re-elected, saying voters should send home leaders who do not work for the people.
Nyamita also urged leaders to speak with respect whenever they address, adding that leaders who use abusive or vulgar language should not be entrusted with leadership positions again.
On the issue of rising cases of goons disrupting public functions in the Nyanza region, the MP cautioned youths against being used by politicians to cause chaos at funerals and other public gatherings.
He equally challenged political leaders to stop sponsoring or mobilizing youths to engage in violence and disorder.
He emphasized the need for peace, unity, and responsible leadership as the region continues to pursue development and progress.
