I the early hours of Monday, August 10, tragedy struck the community of Got Nyapong Village in Bondo, Siaya County.

Corporal Henry Okello Omondi Ojudi, a 44-year-old officer with the General Service Unit (GSU) attached to headquarters in Nairobi, was brutally killed in what appears to be a targeted home invasion.

At around 2:30am, two masked men armed with a panga and a sword forced their way into the off-duty officer’s rural home.

The assailants made a direct beeline for the bedroom where Corporal Ojudi was asleep alongside his wife.

Without hesitation, the intruders stabbed Ojudi twice in the chest while still in bed.

They then dragged him outside into the compound, inflicting severe additional wounds to his head and shoulders.

Remarkably, the attackers left his wife unharmed before melting back into the darkness.

Nothing stolen

What makes the crime particularly chilling is that the assailants stole nothing from the residence.

The absence of theft has left investigators with no obvious motive, pointing strongly toward a premeditated assassination rather than a routine robbery.

Local police from the Bondo and Lwala Kotiende stations were alerted to the incident around 4:30am and immediately rushed to secure the scene.

Following initial processing, Corporal Ojudi’s body was transferred to the Bondo Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending a full postmortem examination.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Bondo has taken full charge of the case.

As detectives work to unmask the two suspects, the local community remains on edge, awaiting answers as to why a serving officer was hunted down in his own home.
