The police in Githurai have refuted claims that there was a mass killing of demonstrators in Githurai during the protests after passing of the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

In a police incident report recorded at Githurai Police Station, the law enforcers claimed that there was no killings as it is spreading on the social media.

Instead, the Police claim that 20 officers were hurt by the protestors who attacked the station and barricaded the roads.

“The anti-finance bill 2024 demonstration was held within our area of jurisdiction. It started at around 1000hrs it was initially peaceful but later turned riotous. Officers from both Githurai sub-county and Kasarani responded.  The group numbered about six thousand (6000) they became violent and lit a bonfire on the road. The   police officers led by sub county commander tried to negotiate with them to peaceably disperse but they refused and started pelting the officers with stones,” read the incident report seen by Kondele news.

The report further stated, “Proclamation was read by the sub county commander but they did not disperse but instead turned very violent. Tear gas was fired to disperse them but they overpowered the officers, and the officers withdrew. As they were withdrawing they blocked the road with an electric pole and consequently cut off Githurai Mwiki land cruiser gka 601l from the convoy and completely burned it down and vandalised its remains.”

Investigations are going on to establish what actually transpired.
