M-Changa collection for Gen Z victims nearing Sh20m, double the target of Sh10m

The fundraising initiative for families of the deceased Gen Z demonstrators and those hospitalized has surpassed the Sh10 million target, nearing the Sh20 million mark.

This outpouring of support follows the tragic events of Tuesday, June 25, where police reports confirmed the deaths of at least six youths and injuries to 123 others during demonstrations.

At the time of publishing this story on June 27, the collection had reached Sh19million.

“This is remarkable; we will ensure our fallen heroes receive a dignified farewell,” remarked Sharon Njoki on X platform.

The otherwise peaceful protests turned violent when demonstrators breached the highly guarded parliament premises, catching authorities off guard.

Once inside, they reached the senate chambers, reportedly taking the mace. Subsequently, parts of the parliament were set ablaze, and protestors accessed the cafeteria, consuming provisions.

President William Ruto expressed strong condemnation, labeling the protestors as criminals engaging in treasonous acts. His reaction highlighted the severity of the situation, reflecting widespread concern and frustration over the events that unfolded.
