Over 500 youths lose jobs after destruction caused by Gen Zs in Eldoret and Nyeri towns

Over 500 youths in Kieni Constituency and Eldoret town have lost their jobs following the destruction of two major business premises by unruly Gen Z protesters.

In Nyeri town, Kieni lawmaker Wainaina Njoroge reported losses amounting to Sh550 million in infrastructure and stock after the protestors vandalised and looted his supermarket.

This forced him to lay off over 300 employees who worked directly at the affected site. During the protest on Tuesday, demonstrators also set fire to a section of the supermarket.

“I lost movable stock valued at Sh450 million and equipment such as bakery shelves worth Sh100 million,” Njoroge stated in an interview with the Standard.

Meanwhile, kilometers away in Eldoret town, a multimillion-dollar project owned by Kapseret lawmaker Oscar Sudi was vandalized, and merchandise worth millions was looted, resulting in significant damage. Sudi’s business had directly employed 200 youths, and he expressed deep dismay over the losses.

“I leave this matter in God’s hands. To those who destroyed and stole the property, may God forgive you,” Sudi said in a TikTok video.
