UGENYA: Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed in a devastating fire that engulfed a home in Sega, Ugenya Sub-County.
The blaze, which broke out under dramatic circumstances, has left the local community in shock.
According to Siaya Police Commander, Leah Atieno, the owner of the affected house, was in the process of preparing food when she heard a siren coming from the main house.
Concerned, she went to investigate and was met with a thick plume of smoke billowing from the children’s bedroom.
“She heard the siren and went to check what was happening. There, she was confronted with a massive smoke cloud coming from the children’s room,” the county police boss reported.
In a desperate attempt to control the situation, Atieno raised the alarm, prompting a quick response from the community.
Neighbors rushed to the scene, trying to extinguish the flames and salvage whatever they could from the blaze. Despite their efforts, the fire had already caused extensive damage.
Police officers who arrived at the scene in North Ugenya Location found that the house had been severely affected by the fire.
The cause of the blaze remains unclear, and investigations have been launched to determine how the fire started.
As the community comes to terms with the loss, authorities are working diligently to uncover the origins of this tragic incident.
