We want Governor Orengo to succeed Odinga as Orange party leader, wananchi decide in an opinion poll

As speculation grows about Raila Odinga’s potential move to the African Union Commission (AUC), a recent opinion poll indicates strong public support for Siaya Governor James Orengo as his successor in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

The poll, conducted by Mayienga FM, a popular vernacular radio station in the lake region, shows Orengo as the leading candidate to take over the party’s leadership.

The morning show, hosted by prominent Luo media personality Festus Amimo, revealed the poll results, highlighting the preferences of the station’s vast audience.

The poll included notable politicians such as Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), Anyang Nyong’o (Kisumu), Simba Arati (Kisii), and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Out of a sample of 100 votes, Orengo received 54 votes, while Wanga garnered 40. Arati and Nyong’o each received 2 votes, with two ballots being spoilt.

The significant lead by Orengo underscores his popularity and the public’s confidence in his ability to lead ODM.

This public sentiment points towards a strong possibility of Orengo succeeding Odinga, who has been at the helm of the political outfit for nearly two decades.

The poll results reflect a growing consensus among the party’s supporters, setting the stage for a potential leadership transition in one of Kenya’s most influential political parties.
