Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki arrived early today in Gaborone, Botswana. He is representing President William Ruto at the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected President Duma Gideon Boko.
This is Prof Kindiki’s first international assignment since becoming Deputy President. Duma Gideon Boko, the little-known new head of state, was elected by the majority.
The former head of state conceded defeat and congratulated Boko on his victory.
Several heads of state attended the ceremony alongside thousands of locals. They view the new leader as a symbol of hope for Botswana, a tiny nation in Southern Africa.
