40th day for a murder suspect after months on the run

Anthony Mwenda, the suspect in the murder of his wife, Millicent Mwendwa, has been arrested.

Mwenda was captured in a sting operation in Wempa, Murang’a South, after months of evading police.

The murder occurred on July 11, 2024, in Mugirirwa, Chuka, Meru South. Mwenda allegedly attacked his wife after a family dispute, inflicting fatal cuts on her head and legs.

Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, found Millicent bleeding heavily. Near her were a Maasai rungu, a black whip, and a blood-soaked panga.

The scene showed signs of her struggle to escape.

Police in Chuka were notified, but they found Millicent’s lifeless body and Mwenda had fled, triggering a manhunt.

Acting on forensic intelligence, homicide and crime research detectives located Mwenda in Wempa. He was arrested today and placed in custody pending arraignment tomorrow.
