After several late-night operations, police in Garissa and Bungoma counties have successfully seized contraband sugar and hundreds of bottles of illicit liquor.
This highlights the ongoing efforts to curb illegal trade ahead of the festive season.
In Garissa, the Border Police patrol team intercepted two vehicles along the Modika-Modogashe road after a high-speed chase.
The officers, who were conducting a routine mobile patrol, noticed two suspicious Toyota Probox vehicles in the Nuno area.
Upon attempting to stop the vehicles for questioning, the drivers tried to flee but were quickly immobilized.
A search revealed 88 bags of sugar branded SAHA, each weighing 25 kilograms.
In a separate operation in Bungoma County, detectives in Kimilili intercepted a vehicle distributing counterfeit liquor.
The seizure included 120 bottles of Smart Vodka (250ml), 65 bottles of County Spirits, 20 bottles of Kibao Vodka, and 40 bottles of Chrome.
The operation was part of a larger crackdown on illegal alcohol distribution in the region. An inventory of the confiscated items was prepared, and a multi-agency team has taken over the investigation.
