56 people arrested in connection with June 25 protests

Authorities are intensifying legal action against individuals linked to the violent anti-government protests that rocked the country on June 25, 2025, with dozens of suspects now facing charges in various courts.

In Kiambu County, the Thika Law Courts have handled the bulk of the arraignments, receiving 85 suspects in total; 56 from Juja Police Station and 29 from Thika Police Station.

In Ruiru, an additional suspect was presented virtually before the local court.

Other counties have also seen increased court activity related to the nationwide unrest. Murang’a courts have processed 32 suspects, while Ol Kalou, Kisii, and Bungoma have handled 15, 10, and 9 suspects respectively.

The wave of arrests comes as security agencies continue to crack down on demonstrators accused of engaging in acts of violence, looting, and destruction of property during last week’s mass protests.
