GEM: Around seventy police officers have been deployed to East Gem in a bid to capture Charles Onyango Odhiambo, who is suspected of murdering at least four women over the past two months.
Authorities cornered him in a dense maize plantation, but he managed to escape undetected.
According to Gem sub‑county police commander Charles Wafula, the ongoing operation is focused on tracking down the suspect.
“Officers trailed him to the Ahono area, where he narrowly slipped away into thick maize fields. The manhunt is underway; we expect to have him in custody soon,” Wafula stated.
When fleeing at night, Onyango left behind a 90-kg sack.
Inside, police discovered tools and weapons including a machete, large steel-cutting scissors, pliers, a spanner, and what appeared to be a neck scuff—evidence that suggests he fled hastily.
“We recovered everything in that sack and it is now in our custody,” Wafula confirmed. “The operation continues.”
Wafula also indicated that those searching believe Onyango may be receiving information from certain community members who are tipping him off, hampering efforts to apprehend him.
