RARIEDA: Police in Rarieda sub-county have launched a formal investigation into a disturbing case of child abuse following the arrest of a 30-year-old man in Magare Village.

The suspect, Joseph Ochieng Ooro, was taken into custody on Monday evening.

He stands accused of defiling a six-year-old girl, an incident that allegedly took place in March 2026 but had remained unreported for two months.

The case came to light after a local resident, Charles Marega, raised the alarm.

Acting on the tip-off, the Assistant Chief of Nyabera sub-location alerted law enforcement, who moved quickly to secure the suspect.

According to police reports, the minor confirmed the assault occurred in March.

Authorities are currently investigating why the matter was not disclosed to the police or local leadership when it first happened.

The suspect, who is reportedly known to the victim’s family, is being held at the Misori Police Station, he is expected to be arraigned in court as early as tomorrow morning once the preliminary investigation is finalized.
