Over 500 bodaboda riders in Busia benefit from free servicing

Leading asset financing company Mogo Kenya and global motorcycle manufacturer Bajaj Auto, in partnership with the Busia County Bodaboda Association, today hosted an outreach and awareness event at St. Joseph’s Busia Girls Primary School grounds, providing free services and goodies to over 500 local riders.

The corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative was designed to reward riders for their brand loyalty and ease the cost of operations for operators within the border county.

Speaking at the event, Bajaj Busia County Manager Alex Ekesa stated that the initiative was geared toward thanking the riders for trusting the Boxer motorcycle brand.

“We are here to offer free servicing, including engine oil changes and bike washes,” Ekesa said.

“Looking at this region, operators highly trust the Boxer motorcycle. We want to bring to their attention that we have made acquisition easier; with a down payment of just Sh35,000, one can now walk away with a motorcycle at very friendly payment rates.”

Addressing persistent industry rumors regarding aggressive repossessions, Ekesa noted that the company has streamlined its asset financing models to ensure riders comfortably pay to completion.

“As a company, we have heard various accusations, but we insist on transparency. Our clients use a dedicated mobile app where they can independently track their loan payments until they clear their balances and fully own their bikes,” he explained.

Bajaj sales representative Geoffrey Kemboi noted that the company has traversed various parts of the country offering what he termed “pocket, heart, and mind” services, helping riders save on maintenance while unwinding through sports and recreational activities.

“Today, each bodaboda rider here is saving at least Sh500 on servicing. To relax their minds, we engaged them in team-building activities like football, music, tug-of-war, and trivia. We are also giving out shopping vouchers and gift hampers,” Kemboi added.

Representing the operators, Busia County Bodaboda Association Chairperson Boniface Okumu lauded the partnership, calling for continued collaboration and more life-changing economic opportunities for riders.

“On behalf of the more than 500 riders from Busia Municipality and neighboring sub-counties who received free services today, I want to extend our deepest appreciation to our partners for this gesture,” Okumu said.

Okumu also acknowledged the collaborative efforts being made by Mogo and Bajaj to introduce security features aimed at averting the rising cases of motorcycle theft reported across Busia County.

Local riders, led by Meshack Wandera, Gilbert Barasa, and Andrew Ologe from Amoni, praised the event, noting that the recreational games helped them unwind after long hours on the road.

The operators walked away with essential goodies, including 2kg packets of maize flour, bike spare parts, and assorted gift hampers.
