The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has intensified its investigations into alleged procurement irregularities at the Nyamira County Assembly following the arrest of Deputy Clerk and Director of Finance and Accounts Leonard Kevin Nyamasege.
The Commission alleges that officials unlawfully awarded a tender for the construction of an office block to Jetta Builders Ltd despite the company not being the lowest evaluated bidder.
EACC says the decision resulted in an undue financial benefit of KSh30,187,396 to the contractor.
Following approval of criminal charges by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Nyamasege and five other suspects are expected to face charges including abuse of office, negligence of official duty, and failure to comply with laws governing the management of public funds.
Nyamasege appeared before the Nyamira Law Courts on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, but plea taking was postponed after his lawyer presented information that the High Court in Kisumu had issued orders suspending his arrest and arraignment pending the hearing of a petition.
The court was informed that the orders had not been served on the EACC.
The matter will be mentioned on July 28, 2026.
The Commission noted that the arrest comes after the earlier arrest of Nyamira County Assembly Clerk Duke Simeon Onyari on June 3, 2026. EACC said it is still pursuing the remaining suspects and remains committed to fighting corruption and protecting public funds.
