GSU defends Mozzart Kenya Cup title with straight-sets triumph over Chema

The General Service Unit (GSU) men’s volleyball team successfully defended their Mozzart Kenya Cup title with a dominant straight-sets victory over Chema Volleyball Club at a packed Kasarani Indoor Arena.

Guided by the tactical leadership of head coach Gideon Tarus and dynamic play on the court from setter Brian Meli, the paramilitary side established control early, securing the opening two sets 25–20 and 25–21.

GSU maintained their momentum through the third set, taking it 25–19 to seal a 3–0 sweep and retain the national trophy.

GSU’s championship run was further highlighted by a sweep of individual honors.

Outside hitter Nicholas Matui was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, while teammates Hudson Kipchumba, Joshua Kimaru, and Brian Meli took home the awards for Best Libero, Best Outside Hitter, and Best Setter, respectively.

In the women’s third-place playoff held at the same venue, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Queens earned the bronze medal after outlasting Kenya Prisons in a five-set marathon.

The DCI Queens seized an initial two-set lead with 25–22 and 25–23 wins before Kenya Prisons mounted a fierce comeback, taking the next two sets 25–9 and 26–24 to force a deciding set.

Despite falling behind early in the fifth set, tactical adjustments by head coach Patrick Sang helped the DCI Queens rally from a 14–14 tie to secure a dramatic 19–17 victory.
