Shock has gripped Yala Market in Siaya County following the sudden death of a 48-year-old school teacher, whose body was discovered inside a local establishment under unclear circumstances.

The deceased has been identified as Collins Abong’o, a school educator.

Police have launched an active investigation to uncover the exact cause of his death.

According to preliminary police reports and eyewitness accounts, the incident unfolded on Wednesday, August 26, 2026:

Abong’o arrived at a bar and restaurant in Yala Market at approximately 11am, accompanied by three people, including his brother.

The group was served drinks, but witnesses noted that Abong’o did not consume any alcohol as he already appeared heavily intoxicated and exhausted.

As Abong’o’s condition deteriorated and he grew increasingly weak, his brother booked a room at the establishment for him to rest.

At around 8pm, one of his companions went to check on him, only to discover that he had passed away.

Police confirmed that the body, which was found fully dressed and lying on its back on a bed, bore no visible physical injuries.

Crime scene investigators processed and documented the area before transferring Abong’o’s body to the Yala Level IV Hospital mortuary.

A postmortem examination is currently pending to determine the definitive cause of his tragic and sudden death.
