Governor James Orengo Amekasirika

The Chinese contractor responsible for completing the multimillion-dollar Siaya Stadium has initiated a round-the-clock work schedule to meet the strict August deadline issued by Gov James Orengo.

The stadium which is slightly bigger than Anfield is set to be officially opened in August with a foreign team, yet to be revealed, playing Gor Mahia in a grand opening match.

The pitch will have six mega flood lights to allow matches to be played at night, a packing space for at least 100 vehicles, two mega conference halls, a police station, a VIP and VVIP restaurants, media center, rooms for the home and away team and a four main gates.

After a temporary stall in progress, construction has resumed at full throttle, with the project gaining significant momentum.

The construction of the 20,000-capacity stadium commenced in 2018 during the tenure of Mr. Orengo’s predecessor, Cornell Rasanga, as the county leader.

However, the initial contractor failed to fulfill the project as per the agreement, citing disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
