20 people missing from Madogo boat incident.

The tranquility of Maroro, Bangale in Tana River County was shattered by a tragic incident as a boat capsized, leaving several individuals unaccounted for.

So far 20 people are still missing.

The ill-fated journey occurred as the victims attempted to traverse the flooded expanse from Madogo to Garissa town. Caught in the treacherous currents, the boat succumbed to the forces of nature, plunging its occupants into uncertainty.

Mr. Joseph Kipkorir, the Deputy County Commissioner of Bangale, confirmed the harrowing ordeal, assuring that a rescue mission is currently underway. “We had an incident, and our teams are on the ground,” he stated, promising further updates as the situation unfolds.

Compounded by the inundation at Maroro, the influx of passengers from Nairobi and Mombasa faced an additional hurdle as buses diverted their routes, depositing travelers at Madogo. From there, individuals were compelled to pay Sh1500 for passage to Garissa via boats, navigating the perilous waters.

The root cause of the flooding lies in the overflow of dams upstream, exacerbating the already precarious conditions in the region.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragedy, the relentless efforts of rescue teams offer a glimmer of hope, as they work tirelessly to locate and aid those affected by this calamity.
