Nairobi: President William Ruto has announced plans to increase the height limit for buildings in Eastleigh from a maximum of 12 floors to 35 floors, aiming to create more housing opportunities in the area.

During his visit to areas affected by floods in Nairobi’s slums, including Kiamaiko, Mathare, and Eastleigh, President Ruto emphasized the need to address the housing shortage exacerbated by the recent heavy rains. “I’ve been informed of the existing limit of 12 floors. I propose extending it to 35 floors to accommodate more Kenyans in decent housing,” stated the Head of State.

The country has been grappling with severe flooding, with Nairobi being one of the worst-hit regions. Consequently, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced the closure of a section of United Nations Avenue road in Runda due to flooding.

In a statement issued on Monday, KURA attributed the closure to the rising water levels following heavy rainfall experienced the previous night. “We regret to inform the public that UN-Avenue, Runda, has been closed due to the rising water levels on the road. The affected sections are between off Ruaka Road roundabout and Magnolia close (The Lord Erroll Restaurant),” read the statement released to the media.
