President calls to explain the importance of school to a crying girl

President William Ruto reached out to the young girl whose tearful video went viral, expressing her reluctance to return to school as the reopening date approached on Monday, May 13.

The four-year-old, known as Tinsley, had been captured on camera crying after learning that her extended holiday was coming to an end.

The video gained widespread attention, eventually catching the eye of the President, who had earlier announced the reopening of schools for the second term on May 13.

Due to the ongoing heavy rains causing floods and damaging some schools while rendering roads impassable, the Ministry of Education had postponed the reopening from April 29 to May 13.

In a recorded phone conversation that also circulated widely, Tinsley’s mother received a call from the Head of State and allowed her daughter to speak with him.

President Ruto took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of education, reminding Tinsley of the obligation for every child to attend school and every parent to ensure their children receive an education.

“Tinsley, I saw your concerns about going to school. It’s essential for every child in Kenya to receive an education. Parents must fulfill their responsibility of sending their children to school because it’s through education that we acquire knowledge, learn new skills, and prepare for the future,” expressed the President in a reassuring tone.

President Ruto then gently inquired about Tinsley’s aspirations for the future. In response, the innocent child admitted uncertainty, to which the President kindly remarked, “You will discover your dreams as you continue your education.”
