No learning for Junior Secondary School children, Teachers down tools.

Teachers at Siaya County Junior Secondary School (JSS) have declared their determination to prolong the disruption of learning activities until their employer, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), addresses their demands for confirmation and compensation.

Marching through the streets of Siaya town, the teachers urged parents to keep their children at home, emphasizing that learning in their schools had come to a standstill.

“We urge parents to keep their children at home with them. There is no meaningful education taking place in our schools at the moment,” stated Mr. Simon Otieno, Chairman of the Siaya JSS teachers’ organization.

Their demands include immediate compensation for their tenure as intern teachers, prompt confirmation as permanent and pensionable employees, and an end to alleged intimidation by school management.

The teachers have also called upon the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) and the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) to rally behind them in their quest for the government to honor court orders issued in March. They urged fellow educators to join them in withholding their services.

“We appeal to KUPPET and KNUT to stand in solidarity with us. Our plight directly affects them indirectly. We ask them to cease teaching and allow students to return home,” remarked Siaya JSS Secretary, Omondi Ochanyo.
