Police arrest two in connection with drug syndicate

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) seized 180 kilograms of suspected cannabis worth Sh5.4million during a 2am operation in Joska, Machakos County, on March 12, 2026.

The Operation Acting on intelligence, officers intercepted a navy blue Toyota Auris (KCA 484R) in the Ng’alalya area.

A search of the vehicle uncovered three gunny bags and 11 taped bales of the illicit plant material.

During the operation, two suspects were arrested Charles Otibong’or Muruga (30) and Joel Dienya Swart (29) while the driver, identified as Newton, fled the scene and is currently being pursued by police.

The two suspects are in custody at Muthaiga Police Station awaiting arraignment.

The narcotics were moved to DCI Headquarters for forensic weighing, while the vehicle remains detained at Joska Police Station.
